She started it all. A mother to icons. The creator of the Kennedy clan.

Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald was born into the prominent Fitzgerald family of Boston, Massachusetts. Her father, John F. "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, was a charismatic politician who served as a U.S. Congressman and later as the Mayor of Boston. From her parents, Rose inherited a keen intellect, a strong sense of social responsibility, and a deep-rooted Catholic faith.

Growing up in the bustling city of Boston, Rose was surrounded by politics, culture, and the arts. She attended elite schools where she excelled academically, displaying a natural aptitude for languages, literature, and history. Despite her privileged upbringing, Rose was instilled with a sense of humility and compassion for those less fortunate, traits that would shape her philanthropic endeavors in later life.

In 1914, Rose married Joseph P. Kennedy, a dynamic and ambitious young man from a wealthy banking and business family. Together, they embarked on a journey that would lead them to the pinnacle of American society. As a devoted wife and mother, Rose embraced the responsibilities of raising a large family while supporting her husband's burgeoning career in finance and politics.

Catholicism was at the heart of Rose's identity. She attended Mass regularly and instilled Catholic values in her children. Her faith provided her with a moral compass and a source of strength during times of adversity.

Tragically, Rose experienced profound loss throughout her life. The death of her son, Joseph Jr., who perished in a bombing mission during World War II was a heartbreaking ordeal that shook the family to its core. Unfortunately, it did not end there, as four out of nine of her children passed in a short span of time. The death of her daughter, Kathleen "Kit," came next, and the assassinations of John and Robert F. Kennedy followed.

"It's wrong for parents to bury their children. It should be the other way around."

Throughout this, she struggled with making the decision to seek help for her daughter Rosemary's behavioral and social delays. After complications from a new procedure, a lobotomy--which did not have enough science to back up its effectiveness--her daughter regressed and was no longer able to be in her care. Despite the pain and sorrow, Rose remained steadfast in her belief that God had a plan for each of her children, even in the face of tragedy. She found solace in prayer, drawing strength from her Catholic faith and the support of her family and friends.

In the wake of these profound losses, Rose channeled her grief into advocacy and philanthropy. She became a vocal champion for mental health awareness and disability rights, using her platform to raise awareness and promote compassion for those facing similar challenges.

Despite the personal tragedies she endured, Rose Kennedy's legacy endures as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and love in overcoming adversity. Her life serves as an inspiration to all who face hardships, reminding us that even in our darkest moments, there is hope and the possibility of renewal.

Rose Kennedy's enduring legacy is a beacon of maternal love and strength. As a devoted mother to nine children, she nurtured and guided her offspring with unwavering dedication and grace. Through her unconditional love, she instilled in them a sense of duty, compassion, and service to others, laying the foundation for their remarkable achievements. Despite facing unimaginable heartache and loss, Rose remained a pillar of strength for her family. Her profound impact as a mother, whose love and guidance continue to inspire generations is honored today and everyday.

Happy Mother's Day to all the extraordinary mothers who, like Rose, shape the world with their boundless love and wisdom!
